On February 3, 2011 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a safety alert for SafetyCraft® brand cribs produced by Generation 2 Worldwide.  In this warning the CPSC urged parents and caregivers to stop using these cribs immediately and find an alternative, safe sleeping environment for their baby and to not attempt to fix the cribs. 

Generation 2 Worldwide ceased operations in 2005.  After 2005 Foundations® began using the SafetyCraft registered trademark.  Please note that SafetyCraft cribs produced by Foundations are not the subject of this safety alert.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT BUYING NEW CRIBS

On December 28, 2010 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) implemented sweeping new crib safety standards for traditional cribs made from steel and wood.  In addition to eliminating drop-sides, cribs now require extensive new structural enhancements and labeling, as well as, allowing for alternate designs for accessing the infant, such as a drop-gate crib side.  Under the new guidelines traditional cribs, both fixed-side and drop-side, may not remain in service after December 28, 2012 that are not compliant to these new standards and as a result, must be replaced.  Hence, if you purchase cribs today that do not meet the new Federal standards they will have to be taken out of service and replaced by December 28, 2012.  The new crib standards are  known as 16 CFR 1219 for full-size cribs and 16 CFR 1220 for compact-size cribs.  The only way to ensure the cribs you purchase today meet these standards is to ask for written certifications from your vendor for the standards numbers noted above.
